Energy Compass
Your road map for managing energy risk in a changing world.

"I find Energy Compass indispensable reading"
Andrew Avramides, Corporate Advisor, Premier Oil

Welcome to the new Energy Compass!

Energy Compass has launched its biggest revamp since its creation 18 years ago. We have redesigned Energy Compass and reoriented its coverage to focus on the new dynamics of the international oil and gas industry.

Here are five key issue areas in which the new Energy Compass will deliver ongoing analysis and insight throughout the year:
  • Power shifting from the majors to the NOCs
  • Demand centers shifting from Western to Asian countries
  • Intensifying conflict in the Middle East
  • Ongoing risks inherent in upstream access and supply
  • Geopolitical risk influencing everything from exploration to market implications
Understanding these events and their significance is vital for anyone involved in today's oil and gas business. Our goal at Energy Compass is to assist you in assessing these risks and analyzing these new dynamics.

The new Energy Compass will focus on:
  • Producer politics: the rise of national oil companies, resource nationalism, resource access and upstream terms
  • The Middle East: increased coverage of the industry's troubled heartland
  • Geopolitical risk: interpreting the world's flash points, from a perspective of energy security and supply
  • Emerging markets: the ascent of China and India, in particular, as key growth markets
This tighter focus will be combined with a greater emphasis on hard facts, original coverage and stimulating analysis. In addition, we will make a concerted effort to draw out the implications, connections and consequences — meaning and market implications — of each event.

Every week, the new Energy Compass will deliver original analysis on the world's biggest and most volatile industry. It taps the talents of Energy Intelligence's renowned editorial team around the world, delivering the coverage, insight and analysis that you require to manage your energy investments.

This combination of existing strengths and new coverage will make Energy Compass a fascinating, vibrant and essential publication to read each week.

Energy Compass:
A Reader's Guide

Energy Compass' coverage focuses on the new dynamics at play in the oil and gas industry — producer power, global geopolitics and emerging markets — and their influence on all aspects of decision-making, from upstream access to risk assessment and oil prices. It stretches beyond conventional reporting to interpret the meaning and market implications of events.

The front page offers a summary of "must-know" developments in geopolitics, the energy industry and oil markets, in bullet format.

The inside features are clearly flagged, and include several regular sections: Flash Points for weekly geopolitical coverage, Opec File for regular Opec coverage, and Briefing for concise "cut-out-and-keep" explanations of key issues.

Articles also include Compass Points, providing an at-a-glance guide to significance, connections and scenarios.

Energy Compass has a strong market section, comprising Market Forces for coverage of major market trends, Marketplace and Pressure Points for weekly drivers, and a snapshot of prices.

Briefs allow a quick-read summary of weekly news. And the occasional Perspective section offers original and provocative opinion, often from outside contributors.
