Summary
The first two named storms of this year’s Atlantic hurricane season hardly caused a ripple in oil markets, but there’s a long way to go before hurricane season is over. The US National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration has predicted high activity in the Atlantic until the end of November, with between eight and 14 hurricanes. If these forecasts are accurate, 2010 could be similar to 2005, when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused widespread damage to Gulf Coast oil infrastructure.
